SIP recently saw a series of events marking the National Day for Helping the Disabled which has been observed annually on the third Sunday of May across the country for 35 years to call on people to render help to those with disabilities.
SIP Ren’ai School, a school dedicated to offering education to physically and mentally challenged youngsters, held an event on May 16, integrating an exhibition of outcomes of its vocational education, donations, and the release of a book on its philosophy and practices of vocational education.
In the event, Sun Fuk Lam Foundation and Suzhou Hong Hua She Charity Foundation donated RMB1,000 to every graduating student under the school’s vocational education program, giving them a helping hand in landing internships and jobs. Two companies donated automated production and testing equipment to the school.
On the same day, a day care center for people with autism was opened in Jinji Lake Sub-district to provide living assistance, professional and social skills training and other services to people with autism.
Concurrently, the “Sunshine Volunteer Service Base for the Handicapped” was inaugurated under the cooperation between the sub-district and four higher education institutions.
A manual on social support for families with members who have autism was released.
On the evening of May 18, the Gate of the Orient, a landmark building by Jinji Lake, was lit up with the message: “Promote Self-Reliance and Strengthen the Power of Solidarity”, calling for greater public care and support for the handicapped.
