On May 20, SIP witnessed the first marriage registration peak following the country’s adoption of new rules that make marriage registration much easier.
The revised rules, which came into effect early this month, have eliminated the need for household registration books and residence permits, which have long been necessary for marriage registration.
By May 19, the marriage registration offices at Suhongxi Road and near the Sino-French Wall of Love in Ligongdi Cultural and Creative Block in SIP had recorded a registration of 289 couples, an increase of 117.29% over the previous year. A total of 157 couples made registration on May 20, an unofficial but widely celebrated romantic day in China, an increase of 137.88% YoY and a record high over the past eight years.
It is worth mentioning that the marriage registration office near the Sino-French Wall of Love celebrated the first anniversary of its establishment at the same time with a variety of activities for the newlyweds.
